Texas moving guide

What a move in Texas actually involves.

When to move in Texas

Texas runs an inbound relocation wave that never fully stops, which makes our four metros the steadiest markets we operate and the easiest to book on short notice outside a few pinch points. The first pinch is heat. From late June through early September an afternoon load in Dallas or Houston is genuinely punishing, so we start Texas moves early in the day through the summer and we would rather put you in a 7am slot than a 2pm one. Those early slots go first. The second is the third week of August, when UT Austin, Texas State in San Marcos, and the San Antonio campuses move students in and every truck in the Austin metro is spoken for. The third is month-end, everywhere, for the usual lease reasons. Weekday moves in the first three weeks of a month are the easiest to schedule and often the cheapest to staff. During business hours we confirm a real timeslot on most quotes in under an hour.

Buildings, parking, and access

The defining feature of a Texas move is building management. Class-A towers in Uptown Dallas, the Domain and downtown Austin, the Houston Galleria and Midtown, and the San Antonio Pearl district almost all require a Certificate of Insurance naming the building before they will let a crew past the lobby, and many want it several business days ahead. Most also require a reserved freight elevator, and the reservation is frequently a hard window rather than a suggestion. Downtown Austin adds street-level difficulty: Rainey Street and much of the east side need a parking permit, and the loading zones fill early. Houston's Inner Loop and the Heights mix that with older bungalows on narrow lots. Bishop Arts in Dallas has the same tight-street problem. Out in Round Rock, Cedar Park, Plano, Frisco, Katy, and Sugar Land the access is straightforward and the constraint is usually an HOA notice rather than an elevator. Send us the building name when you book and the COI goes out ahead of you.

What drives the price

Each Texas metro has its own crew and its own rate, and every suburb inside a metro prices like the metro, so Round Rock is Austin pricing and Plano is Dallas pricing. Beyond that, three things move the number. Crew size is the first, and a larger crew is often cheaper overall than a small one on a long job because the hours drop faster than the rate rises. Access is the second, and in Texas it is usually the elevator: a reserved freight elevator with a dock at the bottom is fast, while a single shared residential elevator in a full building can double the time on the same volume. Stairs are the third, particularly in the older Heights and East Austin housing. You get a flat rate locked before move day instead of an hourly meter, $5 holds the date, and you pay when the work is finished. The truck is yours, and not paying for ours is where the savings comes from.

Texas questions

Which Texas cities do you serve?+

Top markets: Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Plus the surrounding Austin metro: Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Leander, Hutto, Kyle, Buda, Lakeway, Bee Cave, Dripping Springs, and Georgetown, TX.

Do you do moves between Texas cities?+

We're labor-only, so we don't drive long-haul. For a move between metros like Austin to Houston, you'd rent the truck. We can load you in one city and our crew at the destination can unload. Call (864) 256-1166 to coordinate.

Can you handle high-rise buildings in Texas?+

Yes. Every week. We provide COIs upon request, work elevator reservation windows, and have moved into Class-A towers across Uptown Dallas, the Domain and downtown Austin, the Houston Galleria, and downtown San Antonio.

Do you bring a truck?+

No. We're labor-only, so you rent the truck, container, or pods and we bring the crew that loads and unloads it. That is the main reason our pricing lands below full-service movers. We can book a U-Haul on your behalf when you reserve your date.

How do you handle Texas summer heat on move day?+

We start early. From late June through early September the first slots of the day go first for good reason, and we would rather put a Dallas or Houston job at 7am than mid-afternoon. Crews bring their own water and take breaks in the heat. If you are booking a summer move, ask for a morning window when you submit the quote.

How quickly can you book in Texas?+

Same-week availability is the norm across our Texas markets. Same-day is often possible on weekdays. Submit a quote and we'll confirm with a real timeslot in under an hour during business hours.

Moving out of Texas?

We're labor-only, so we don't drive between states. For a move out of Texas you rent the truck, our crew loads it here, and a crew in the destination state unloads it there. Call (864) 256-1166 and we'll book both ends.
