South Carolina moving guide

What a move in South Carolina actually involves.

When to move in South Carolina

South Carolina moves cluster around two calendars. The university one is the sharper of the two: Clemson and the University of South Carolina both turn over in the second half of August, and in Clemson that single week reshapes the whole town. Off-campus houses empty and refill within days, and the crews we field that week are largely Clemson students moving other Clemson students. Columbia sees the same thing around the USC campus in the Vista and Five Points. The second calendar is the coastal one. Charleston and Mount Pleasant run heaviest May through August, when the peninsula sees its inbound relocation wave and beach rentals change hands. Month-end is busy everywhere for the usual reason, because leases end on the 31st. Greenville is the steadiest of our South Carolina markets and the easiest to book on short notice. Anywhere in the state, a mid-month weekday is the slot with the most availability, and August dates in Clemson or Columbia should be booked several weeks out.

Buildings, parking, and access

Charleston is the hardest access city we work in, and it rewards planning. The single houses south of Broad and through Harleston Village have side piazzas and narrow interior staircases built long before anyone owned a sectional, and several historic district streets cannot take a 26-foot truck at all, so we bring a 16 and make the extra trip. Parking on the peninsula frequently means a city permit for the space in front of the door. Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island, and the Isle of Palms swap that problem for gate codes, guardhouse check-ins, and HOA move-in windows that are enforced to the minute. Greenville's Main Street and West End loft conversions run on freight elevators and reserved docks. Columbia's student buildings around USC have the elevator congestion you would expect in the third week of August. Clemson is mostly older detached houses with tight stairs and driveways that fit one vehicle. Tell us the address and we arrive with the right truck size and the right plan.

What drives the price

Rates are set by metro, so Greenville, Charleston, Columbia, Clemson, and Myrtle Beach each price separately, and every suburb inside a metro is priced like the metro. Mount Pleasant matches Charleston, Simpsonville matches Greenville. The variables that actually change your quote are the crew size, the number of hours the job runs, and the distance between the door and wherever the truck can legally sit. In Charleston that last one carries more weight than anywhere else we operate, because a permit-only space half a block away turns every load into a walk. Stairs are the other multiplier, especially the historic staircases where large furniture has to come apart and go back together. We give you a flat rate before the day rather than an hourly meter that runs while you watch, $5 reserves the date, and payment comes after the crew is done. The truck is yours to rent, which is where most of the savings against a full-service quote comes from.

South Carolina questions

Which South Carolina cities do you serve?+

Top markets: Charleston, Greenville, Columbia, and Clemson. Plus 25+ surrounding cities are Mount Pleasant, Summerville, Simpsonville, Greer, Irmo, Anderson, Easley, Lexington, SC, and many more. Anywhere in the Charleston, Greenville, Columbia, or Upstate region.

Are you the same Undergrads Moving that started in Clemson?+

Yes. Clemson is our hometown. We started there in 2017 and still operate every weekend during the school year. We added Greenville, Charleston, and Columbia as we grew, and we still run the Clemson moves with college athletes from the university.

Do you do moves in the Lowcountry beach areas, Mount Pleasant, Folly, Sullivan's?+

Yes. The Charleston crew covers Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island, Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms, and Folly Beach. Beach-house moves with stairs and tight parking are routine for us.

Can you get a truck onto the Charleston peninsula?+

Yes, with the right truck. Several historic district streets will not take a 26-footer, so we bring a 16-foot truck and plan for an extra trip rather than arriving with a vehicle that cannot reach the door. If your block requires a parking permit for the space out front, tell us when you book so the crew is not circling on the clock.

Do you bring a truck?+

No. We're labor-only, so you supply the truck, container, or pods and we supply the crew that loads and unloads. That is the main reason our pricing lands below full-service movers. We can book a U-Haul for you when you reserve your date if you'd rather not handle the rental.

How does pricing work across South Carolina?+

Rates are by metro. Greenville and Charleston are priced separately. The model is the same everywhere: flat rate, $5 to reserve, pay after the move.

Moving out of South Carolina?

We're labor-only, so we don't drive between states. For a move out of South Carolina you rent the truck, our crew loads it here, and a crew in the destination state unloads it there. Call (864) 256-1166 and we'll book both ends.
