Moving in San Antonio: the military calendar, the heat, and the historic districts
San Antonio's moving calendar is defined in no small part by the military. Joint Base San Antonio, meaning Lackland, Fort Sam Houston, and Randolph, tends to make housing turnover in the nearby towns move in lockstep with the PCS calendar. Summers are hot and dry, so nobody is too mad about an early start.
Downtown, the Pearl, and Southtown have a growing stock of lofts and condos where a freight-elevator reservation and a Certificate of Insurance are standard. Cellars at Pearl loads along Pearl Parkway and wants a weekday-morning window because the district is pedestrian-heavy on weekends and during the farmers market; The Floodgate on the River Walk has an automated garage, so moves stage from the Commerce Street loading zone by appointment. King William and Monte Vista are historic districts with narrow streets, mature trees, and steep original staircases, which calls for a smaller truck and careful crews. Alamo Heights sits inside the loop with the same older-street constraints.
Stone Oak and the far north side are gated communities and hillside lots with long, sloped driveways, and the fastest growth runs northeast along I-35 toward New Braunfels and Schertz and northwest into the Hill Country around Boerne, where newer homes mean longer carries but no elevator waits. Hill Country roads flash-flood in heavy rain, and a low-water crossing on a spring afternoon can add an hour to a Boerne move. UTSA's move-in on the third weekend of August fills the northwest side that week, Trinity and St. Mary's add smaller waves, and USAA, H-E-B, and Valero relocate people into the city all year.

Especially heavy or bulky safes and pianos are best left to movers who specialize in those items. Keyboards, obviously, aren't an issue. Gun safes and firearms are best left to you. Contractually, our movers won't touch them.
