When to move in Lexington
One calendar dominates Lexington, and it belongs to the University of Kentucky. The second half of August compresses an enormous amount of moving into about ten days as UK and Transylvania students arrive, off-campus houses near campus turn over almost completely, and truck rental supply in Fayette County runs short. Early May does a smaller version of the same thing in reverse as the school year ends. Outside those two windows Lexington is one of the calmer markets we operate, and same-week booking is the norm rather than the exception. Month-end still fills first because leases end on the 31st, and the horse-industry calendar puts pressure on hotel and rental availability around the spring and fall meets at Keeneland without much affecting move scheduling. A weekday in the first three weeks of the month is the easiest slot to get. If you are moving in August anywhere near campus, book two to three weeks out and expect the crew to want an early start.
