Knoxville’s moving market is small enough that everyone knows the same handful of names, and Reddit’s r/Knoxville re-litigates them every few months. What the threads and the marketing pages both miss is what the review platforms actually show side by side: a few companies hold up on both Google and Yelp, a few look great on one and rough on the other, and the difference is worth understanding before you book. We pulled live Google and Yelp ratings for Knoxville’s most-booked movers in July 2026.
A note on reading the numbers. Google review counts run five to twenty times Yelp’s for the same company — crews ask happy customers for Google reviews on move day, while Yelp reviews come from people motivated enough to seek out the page, which skews toward grievances, and Yelp’s filter suppresses reviews it considers suspect. A big Google-vs-Yelp gap doesn’t mean a company is secretly bad; it means the range of experiences is wide, and you should read a page of one-star reviews on both platforms before committing. Ratings were checked July 2026 and will drift.
Gouffon Moving & Storage — the century-old institution
Google: 4.7 stars (950 reviews) | Yelp: 3.4 stars (34 reviews)
Who are they? Local, family-owned, dating to the early 1900s; full-service local and interstate, plus storage
What do they do? Full-service moves, storage needs, and anyone who wants the most established name in East Tennessee
Gouffon is the institution of Knoxville moving — a family company that dates back over a century, with warehouse storage, commercial and records work, and interstate capability that the newer crews can’t match. The Google profile is excellent for an operation this size (4.7 across 950 reviews), Forbes put it at the top of its Knoxville list, and it’s the name that comes up first when locals are asked for a full-service recommendation. The Yelp score is more middling at 3.4, though the sample is small (34 reviews). For bigger houses, storage-in-transit, and interstate moves, this is the default first call in the market.
Sebastian Moving — the best dual profile in town
Google: 4.8 stars (52 reviews) | Yelp: 4.9 stars (17 reviews)
Who are they? Local operation of a small multi-city family brand; local and long-distance
What do they do? Ratings-first bookers, long-distance moves on a budget, short-notice jobs
Sebastian is the only Knoxville mover we found with elite scores on both platforms — 4.8 on Google, 4.9 on Yelp, where it ranks at the top of the local results. The review counts are modest (this is a small operation), but recent reviewers describe next-day long-distance deliveries, careful antique handling, and accurate estimates, and posting a 4.9 on Yelp’s heavily filtered platform is not luck. The usual small-shop caveat applies: limited trucks and crews mean you book with lead time or get lucky. If both platforms agreeing matters to you, this is the pick.
The Knoxville Moving Company — the boutique local
Google: 4.9 stars (72 reviews) | Yelp: 4.6 stars (9 reviews)
Who are they? Local, independent; residential moving with organizing/staging sidelines
What do they do? Local residential moves where communication and care matter more than fleet size
The Knoxville Moving Company runs the highest Google average in the market (4.9) with a small but consistent review base, and its 4.6 on Yelp — tiny sample, nine reviews — at least points the same direction. Review themes center on punctuality and communication, and the company’s sidelines in home staging and professional organizing say something about the kind of detail-oriented residential work it courts. Same trade-off as every boutique: capacity is limited, so peak-season dates go fast.
College Hunks Hauling Junk & Moving — the versatile franchise
Google: 4.7 stars (1,711 reviews) | Yelp: 2.7 stars (57 reviews)
Who are they? National franchise; moving plus junk removal
What do they do? Combo jobs — moves that also involve hauling stuff away — and short-notice availability
The Knoxville College Hunks franchise has built one of the biggest review bases in the market (1,700+ on Google at 4.7) and offers the combination nobody else on this list does: a move and a junk-removal run in one booking, which is quietly the most useful service pairing for downsizers and estate cleanouts. The Yelp picture is much weaker at 2.7 — consistent with the brand’s pattern in other cities, including Nashville — and the complaints that show up tend to involve time-and-cost expectations, so pin down the hourly math and crew size in writing. For the right job, especially with a purge involved, the convenience is real.
Two Men and a Truck — the national standard, Knoxville edition
Google: 4.5 stars (395 reviews) | Yelp: 3.3 stars (33 reviews)
Who are they? National franchise; Knoxville location on Western Ave
What do they do? Straightforward full-service moves with formal training, paperwork, and a corporate claims process
The Knoxville Two Men and a Truck franchise posts a 4.5 on Google and — unusually for a national brand — a not-bad 3.3 on Yelp, the best Yelp showing among the national operators in this market. The franchise machinery is the appeal: standardized training, proper valuation paperwork, and a claims process that goes above the local operation if something breaks. As with any franchise, you’re really hiring the local outfit, and this one’s numbers suggest it’s run competently. Get the estimate and fee schedule in writing, as ever.
All My Sons Moving & Storage — the high-volume national
Google: 4.4 stars (2,317 reviews) | Yelp: 1.4 stars (135 reviews)
Who are they? National chain; Knoxville location on Lovell Rd
What do they do? Big-crew capacity and fast availability — with everything itemized in writing first
All My Sons carries the biggest Google review base in Knoxville (2,300+ at 4.4) and the lowest Yelp score on this list (1.4 across 135 reviews) — the same maximum-gap pattern its Nashville location shows. The scale is the draw: lots of trucks, lots of crews, and a real shot at short-notice availability that the boutiques can’t offer. The review spread is the caution: thousands of satisfied Google reviewers alongside a substantial body of detailed Yelp complaints. If you book here, treat the paperwork as the job — a written not-to-exceed estimate, every fee (travel time, materials, stairs) itemized before move day, and valuation coverage you understand. Good advice anywhere; non-negotiable here.
How to actually choose
Ratings build the shortlist; the quote process finishes the job. Any Knoxville mover worth hiring will answer these without hedging: hourly rate and minimum hours, travel-time charges from the warehouse, stair and long-carry fees, what valuation coverage is included, the rescheduling policy, and their USDOT number. Knoxville-specific wrinkles: August is the market’s chaos month — UT’s lease-turnover calendar soaks up crews across the city, so book well ahead — and if your move involves one of the older ridge-top neighborhoods, ask how the company handles steep driveways and long carries, because that’s where hourly estimates go sideways.
