PACKING GUIDE

6 rules our crew wishes every customer knew

Rule 1

One box per room

Never mix rooms in a single box. It makes unpacking exponentially harder.

Rule 2

Label all 4 sides + top

Boxes stack. You'll never see the front label. Label every visible surface.

Rule 3

Heavy items in small boxes

Books, tools, dishes, small boxes only. Large boxes are for light stuff: pillows, linens, lampshades.

Rule 4

Color-code by room

A strip of colored tape on each box = instant crew direction. No explaining needed.

Rule 5

Pack an "open first" box

Coffee maker, toilet paper, phone charger, one set of sheets. This box goes in last and comes off first.

Rule 6

Don't fill boxes to the brim

A box should be closeable without force and liftable without back strain. 30–35 lbs is the sweet spot.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you start packing

How far in advance should I book movers?

Book 2-4 weeks out for most moves. May, June, August, September are peak season; book 4-6 weeks out. Undergrads charges $5 to hold your date, so there's no reason to wait.

When should I start packing?

Start 4-6 weeks out with non-essentials. Pack one room at a time, label every box with the room name and contents, and leave daily-use items for the last 1-2 days before the move.

What shouldn't I pack until move day?

Leave these for last: phone/laptop chargers, medications, toiletries, one set of dishes and utensils, bedding, pet supplies, important documents, and your "first night" bag.

Can I leave clothes in dresser drawers?

Yes. If the dresser is solid wood or a heavier piece, keep the drawers empty (removes weight and prevents damage). Lighter dressers with well-fitting drawers can often travel with clothes inside.
