What to know about moving in Charlotte
Uptown Charlotte high-rises require a Certificate of Insurance (COI) naming the building as additionally insured before move day. Request this from your mover at least 5 business days out, buildings like Catalyst, 230 South Tryon, and The Vue enforce this strictly and will turn away an uncredentialed truck on move day. We handle the COI filing for every Uptown move. The LYNX Blue Line creates parking enforcement on Trade Street and Tryon Street throughout the day, your truck cannot stage on these corridors without a city moving permit. For South End and NoDa, most modern apartment buildings have a single shared loading dock. Reserve it through the building management office as soon as your move date is set; popular buildings have dock slots book out 2-3 weeks. In Plaza Midwood and Dilworth, residential street widths vary significantly. Many lots off Central Avenue have shared driveways or no off-street staging at all, a 26-ft box truck is the safe maximum for most of these neighborhoods; larger vehicles often can't make the turns. Ballantyne and Steele Creek are more truck-accessible but require earlier booking in peak season: the south suburban market fills fast June through August as corporate relocations from Uptown firms (Bank of America, Truist, Atrium) tend to happen at fiscal quarter-ends. If you're relocating for a Charlotte-area employer, let us know, we schedule corporate relocation moves with priority slots and can coordinate directly with your HR relocation package. May through August is peak season in Charlotte. Weekend slots sell out fastest, often 3-4 weeks in advance. Last-minute weekday moves are usually bookable with 48-72 hours notice year-round.
