FAQ
The questions we hear most often from Charlotte movers customers — including same-day availability, U-Haul details, and labor-only options.
What's included in The Undergrads Bundle?
+
The Undergrads Bundle is Charlotte moving help with U-Haul built in: your U-Haul truck reservation (we book it for you), furniture pads, dollies, boxes and tape, and our professional Charlotte moving crew for all loading and unloading. You drive the truck — we take care of every other detail.
Why is this cheaper than a full-service moving company in Charlotte?
+
Traditional full-service moving companies in Charlotte add a markup on the truck and equipment because they own (and insure) the fleet. Undergrads coordinates the U-Haul on your behalf at retail price — so you skip the markup but get the same coordinated, turnkey experience with our Charlotte movers handling every box.
Who drives the U-Haul?
+
You do. The rental agreement is in your name, so you drive between locations — and U-Haul's standard protection plans (Safemove / Safetow) cover the vehicle. Our Charlotte movers handle all the loading and unloading at both ends.
Do I have to book the U-Haul myself?
+
Nope — that's the whole point of the bundle. We reserve the right-sized U-Haul at the closest Charlotte location, add the blankets and dollies, and text you the pickup details. U-Haul collects the truck rental directly from you at pickup — no upcharge from us.
Do you offer same-day or next-day Charlotte movers?
+
Most weeks, yes — same-day Charlotte movers are often available, and next-day booking is routine. Charlotte is our home market with the largest crew availability. Call us to confirm truck and crew availability for your date.
Are your movers licensed and insured?
+
Absolutely. All Undergrads movers are fully licensed and insured. Our Charlotte-based college student crews are professionally trained for your peace of mind.
Can I book labor-only movers in Charlotte without the truck?
+
Of course. If you've already got a truck, pod, or container lined up, Undergrads offers labor-only movers in Charlotte by the hour — loading, unloading, or both. Just let us know when you call and we'll quote it on the spot.
What size U-Haul will you book for me?
+
We size the U-Haul to your home and your specific furniture list. Studios usually take a 10-ft truck (~400 cu ft); a typical 1-bedroom fits a 15-ft (~600 cu ft); most 2-bedrooms need a 20-ft (~1,000 cu ft); and a 3-bedroom or anything with a sectional is a 26-ft (~1,400 cu ft). On the booking call we walk through your big-ticket items — sectional, king bed, hope chest, bookshelves — and bump up if it's a borderline call. The bigger truck is almost always cheaper than a second trip.
How long will my Charlotte move actually take?
+
Studios typically wrap in 2–3 hours, 1-bedrooms in 3–4, 2-bedrooms in 4–6, and 3-bedrooms in 6–8. Stairs add 15–30 minutes per flight. An unreserved building elevator can eat another 30–60 minutes. Being fully boxed before we arrive is the single biggest speed factor — we've seen 6-hour jobs finish in 4.5 because the customer prepped. We bill in 15-minute increments, so there are no surprise round-ups at the end.
What's the cheapest day to move in Charlotte?
+
Tuesday and Wednesday mornings consistently come in lowest in Charlotte. Saturday is the most-booked day and runs roughly 25% higher than a midweek slot. Mid-month also beats the lease-end rush around the 28th–31st. If you have any flexibility on date, telling us your preferred week (instead of a single day) often unlocks a cheaper slot — we'll quote both side by side on the call.
How do stairs and building access affect my Charlotte quote?
+
Stairs add about 15–30 minutes per flight to the move. An unreserved freight elevator at an Uptown high-rise can add 30–60 minutes of waiting. A long-carry from a parking-restricted street like parts of Plaza Midwood or NoDa adds another 30–60. We ask about all of this on the booking call — floors, elevator status, parking proximity, narrow stairwells — so the quote reflects the actual day, not a sticker price that balloons on-site. Most apartment buildings let you reserve the freight elevator for free or a small fee; do that 2 weeks out if you can.
What do I need to have ready before the crew arrives?
+
We bring the muscle and the protective gear: furniture pads, hand and appliance dollies, tie-down straps, and ramps. You bring the materials that wrap and seal your stuff — boxes (small for books, medium for kitchen, large for linens), heavy-duty packing tape, mattress bags, shrink wrap, and a marker for labels. A typical 1-bedroom needs ~40–50 boxes; a 2-bedroom needs ~60–80. Defrost the fridge 24 hours out and disconnect washer hoses the night before. Gas dryers need a licensed pro to disconnect — we can't do that legally.
How far ahead should I book a Charlotte move?
+
Off-peak weekday moves often book inside 72 hours — we keep some Charlotte capacity open for short-notice jobs. Shoulder-season Saturdays (March–April, September–October) need at least 10 days. Peak summer Saturdays — especially around month-end and UNC Charlotte move-in week — go out 2–3 weeks. Reschedules are free with 72 hours notice. The earlier you call, the better the morning slot you'll lock in.
Should I tip the Charlotte crew, and how much?
+
Tipping isn't required, but it's customary in moving — typical local-move range is $20–$40 per mover, more for stairs, heat, or all-day jobs. Cash, Venmo, or adding it to your invoice all work. Our crews are Charlotte-area students working through school; if they did a good job (problem-solved a tight stairwell, took care with your dresser, kept their attitude up at hour six), a tip lands meaningfully.
What neighborhoods do your Charlotte movers cover?
+
Our Charlotte movers serve Uptown, South End, NoDa, Plaza Midwood, Dilworth, Myers Park, Ballantyne, SouthPark, University City, Steele Creek, and nearby towns like Matthews, Huntersville, Concord, Cornelius, Pineville, Mint Hill, Fort Mill, and Rock Hill.
